Winners Announced - The Tia Maria Hi Style Awards 2014

Style Awards LogoThe red carpet was rolled out in Cork for The Tia Maria Hi Style Awards 2014 on Saturday November 8th 2014 in the Tia Maria Pavilion at Silver Springs Convention Centre Cork when 600 of the most stylish people in Munster attended Munster’s largest and most glittering award ceremony and banquet hosted by Hi magazine. TV personality and journalist Amanda Brunker was the presenter of the awards and the night was a celebration of all that is stylish in Munster. 40 awards were presented and each award winner received the stunning and specially commissioned Tia Maria award.

The panel of Judges was Chaired by Solicitor Gerald Kean who said before the evening “This is the largest style event in Munster with 600 of the most glamorous people attending and I am really looking forward to what promises to be a fantastic night of style, music and awards. The event last year was an outstanding success and there is such a choice of nominees for each of the awards that it is a daunting task to know who will win each award”.

The publisher of Hi magazine Michael Mulcahy commented “Last year was an amazing event and I haven’t seen this level of interest in an event in over five years. So far there has been over 48,000 votes for the nominees and as the voting is free, it gives everyone a great incentive to get campaigns going. We have nominees from Bantry to Ballyvaughan and with 600 people attending the awards it will be a fantastic night of entertainment and food and people. We have a fantastic €25,000 worth of prizes to be won on the night so it will be a night to remember. The night is all about acknowledging the great work and effort of so many people in Munster and Hi magazine is delighted to be hosting the event in recognition of the amazing contribution that everyone in Munster makes to our area. We are delighted to welcome ALFAPARF as one of the sponsor's this year and there are a selection of their products for each guest tonight in the goody bags. As usual expect some surprises and some very special guests on the night”.

Winners announced at the ALFAPARF Fantastic Hairdresser Awards 2014

Fantastic Hair Awards 130ALFAPARF Milano, the internationally renowned Italian luxury hair product company awarded the  ALFAPARF Fantastic Hairdresser Awards 2014 to nine winners at a gala presentation attended by Ireland’s leading hair stylists at the Double Tree Hotel By Hilton, Burlington Road (formerly The Burlington Hotel), Dublin 4 today (Sunday, November 2nd , 2014).

The awards, now in their fifth year, give stylists and salons an opportunity to show their creative expertise and technical excellence through six creative and two business awards and an artistic award: the ALFAPARF InixiaPhotographic Award.

Almost 400 hairdressers from all over Ireland dedicated months of hard work preparing their entries for these nine categories. Acclaimed stylist, designer and TV presenter, Brendan Courtney, hosted the sold-out evening awards event to which some 1,200 stylists and industry insiders had been invited. He presented the awards along with ALFAPARF and Alan Austin-Smith, founder of The Fantastic Hairdresser Company.  Each winner was presented with an Irish-designed and handcrafted stained glass trophy.

The epically glam evening began when ten models and dancers from the prestigious Norma O’Donoghue Model Agency, coloured and coiffed by the 20 graduates of ALFAPARF’s standard-setting Master Degree 2014, took to the runway in a series of Roman-style dresses (designed by Marion Murphy Cooney) to special, mood-enhancing, soundtrack accompaniment with background imagery projections. The star theme was ‘ Classical Elegance’.  The graduates set out to achieve these contrasting ideas of strong feminine beauty shown with the soft tones and muted pallets set against strong angular shapes and beautiful colour concentration. The brief given to the 20 masters was as precise as the cuts themselves:  “It’s all about purity of concept and then purity of technique and execution of the cut. That leaves you with the purity of colour and that‘s what we -  as Ireland’s largest colour company – want to illustrate. Pure vision and pure colour will give you pure perfection”, said Ger Hand, ALFAPARF’s Technical Manager and Producer of the awards.

Fantastic Hair Awards 068The Greco-Roman undertone was carried forward by one of Ireland’s leading stylists Alan  Keville of Keville for Hair, who presented his new collection, Athena, inspired by the Amazons, the free-flowing female warriors of Greek mythology and Arc-ing all the way through to the Joan,  the Maid of Orleans - all armour, amour and angles.

An elaboration on the theme of purity in colour was followed by Intercoiffure Ireland’s 'Hair Fashion Team' who presented 'The Colour Purple', a slick hair show of beauty and creativity from some of the best in the business.

The awards were judged by a high-flying international judging panel which comprised: Sean Dawson - HOB Salons General Manager, NHF Hairdresser of the Year 2009, winner of the London Hairdresser of the Year in 2013. Fiona O’Brien - five times finalist at the British Hairdressing Awards, International platform artist and winner (twice) of the British Hairdressing Business Awards Manager of the Year.  Mark Woolley, an award-winning hair stylist, international creative director and entrepreneur behind the exclusive Electric brand encompassing six bespoke salons in key cities throughout the UK.  Joseph Koniak, an award-winning hairdresser who comes from an extraordinary creative background. The son of Michael Collis, co-founder of the globally acclaimed Molton Brown hair and beauty brand, Joseph became the youngest Artistic Director at the Molton Brown salon before opening his own premises in 1999 and Marijana Habek, an ALFAPARF International Educator.

Neil Canavan, the show’s superb Assistant Production Manager, brought together all elements of the production – audio, video, lighting and staging aspects. His professionalism and vision made the show the stunning event it undoubtedly was.

Lucie Pankhurst, choreographed the Award’s show again this year.  Lucie is recognised in the business as an outstanding dance and movement director with an impressive resume that features popular TV shows, movies and stage productions including Gloria Estefan’s X-Factor performance, Michael Fassbender’s Wedding Belles and Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman. Lucie worked as movement director for Jamaican sprinter, Usain Bolt and British Illusionist, Derren Brown.

ALFAPARF Milano brand is the standard within the hairdressing industry and is considered by both trade and Fantastic Hair Awards 072consumer press worldwide as the undeniable leaders in state-of-the-art salon products. The prestige that the brand brings to everything it involves itself in is legendary.  Their representative in Ireland, David Donnellan, said: “The Italian beauty and style giants were delighted to show their commitment to technical and artistic excellence and were particularly happy to support Ireland’s vibrant hair and beauty commercial community which they consider to be leaders in every facet of the business.

“ALFAPARF is all about the best talent using the best product. It’s about striving for excellence and achieving it. We’re committed to that. We know that the inspiration and creativity demonstrated at these Awards today will end up being translated onto the streets, workplaces and social scene of Ireland – and that’s what we want”, concluded David Donnellan, ALFAPARF Ireland.
